How do I become an IFA student?

The enrolment process is simple:
If you are a self study student complete and return the registration form available here.
If you are training through one of our accredited training providers they will register you for the relevant qualification.

What exemptions can I get?

If you have previous finance or accountancy qualifications you may be eligible for exemption from some of our modules / units. In order for us to assess your exemptions eligibility you will need to complete and return the student registration form including the exemptions section and return everything to the IFA with relevant certificates/transcripts.

How long does it take to study for the exams?

There is no hard and fast rule – the study period can vary depending on your previous background, how fast you learn, and how much time you can devote to study. However, as a general guide, each module/unit is expected to take approximately 140 hours of studying.

What are the study options for the qualifications?

Most students opt for self study route, supported by comprehensive BPP study guides, which allows students to study at their own rate and decide when they wish to take the exams. The module/unit
exams can be taken individually or in groups (to build into the full qualifications) as appropriate to student’s circumstances.

In some countries there is the option to study for the qualifications at one of our accredited training
providers - countries and contact names listed below:
Egypt – Amir Safwat;

Russia – Sergey Khomyakov;

For UK based provisions, please check the database available here:

During the course of 2012 year we will be recruiting further accredited training providers.

Where can I sit my exams if I am a self study student?

Our accredited training providers are able to host the IFA exams; for details of your nearest centre click here.

Alternatively you can take the exams  at your local Pitman centre: for details click here.

Why change from modules to units?

This year the IFA hopes to have its qualifications on the UK’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF).

This will mean some changes in the language we use (qualification components will become units rather than modules) and titles of modules and qualifications will be modified to fit QCF criteria.  We are also taking the opportunity to update some content and clarify certain syllabus areas.

These changes will not be significant and further details will be published during 2012.

Will this affect the study guides?

BPP will be publishing new eBook titles to coincide with the IFA’s move to QCF units in 2012. However the
current BPP study guides will still remain relevant for the December 2012 exam sittings.

How do I use the new eBooks?

If you have any queries about eBooks, please click here for a list of FAQs from BPP Learning Media.
