How to upgrade

Upgrading is free of charge. 

Simply send the required documents as stated below, quoting your membership number, to the membership department at [email protected] or post to:

Once your membership has been upgraded you will be invoiced for the new annual membership fee the following year.

Intermediate Financial Accountant (IFA AIPA) to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) 

To upgrade from Intermediate Financial Accountant (IFA AIPA) to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing;  
  2. comply with the IFA CPD regulations; 
  3. provide a CV detailing how you have obtained three years’ experience in accountancy or a related field, and  
  4. have passed all subjects covered within the IFA Direct education programme or one of our other alternative routes to membership. 

Intermediate Financial Accountant members who are studying IFA Direct to upgrade to Associate membership will have their Associate membership fee reduced by the IFA Direct application when Associate membership is approved. 

Intermediate Financial Accountant (IFA AIPA) to Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) 

To upgrade from Intermediate Financial Accountant (IFA AIPA) to Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) you must: 

  1. be a member in good standing;  
  2. comply with the IFA CPD regulations; 
  3. provide a CV detailing how you have obtained three years’ experience in a tax field, and 
  4. have passed all subjects covered within the IFA Direct education programme or one of our other alternative routes to membership. 

Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) 

To upgrade from Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) to Associate Financial Adviser (AFA MIPA) you must: 

  1. be a member in good standing; 
  2. comply with the IFA CPD regulations; 
  3. provide a CV detailing how you have obtained three years’ experience in accountancy or related field; and  
  4. have passed all subjects covered within the IFA Direct education programme or one of our other alternative routes to membership. 

Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) to Fellow Financial Accountant (FFA FIPA) 

To upgrade from Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) to Fellow Financial Accountant (FFA FIPA) you must: 

  1. be a member in good standing; 
  2. comply with the IFA CPD regulations; 
  3. have seven years' uninterrupted membership of the IFA at Associate level; and 
  4. provide a CV detailing the required experience at a senior level in accountancy.  

 
Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) to Fellow Tax Adviser (FTA)

To upgrade from Associate Tax Adviser (ATA) to Fellow Tax Adviser (FTA) you must: 

  1. be a member in good standing; 
  2. comply with the IFA CPD regulations; 
  3. have seven years' uninterrupted membership of the IFA at Associate level; and 
  4. provide a CV detailing the required experience at a senior level in taxation.
