The Autum VAT update | Tony Cochrane
10:45am - 11:45am

VAT does not stand still, and most of what changes never reaches the people who need to know. In the last few months alone the Capital Goods Scheme has been rewritten, the Court of Appeal has reversed a decision the taxi sector had already banked, and HMRC has confirmed how e-invoicing will work. VAT accounts for a fifth of the tax gap and small businesses for most of it, so this is where HMRC is looking. The session brings together recent case law, policy changes and our presenter's own view of where the risks sit, sharpening your awareness of the VAT regime and what to look for across your client base

  • Tribunal and court decisions, and what they change in practice
  • HMRC policy and guidance updates
  • Where HMRC is currently focusing its compliance attention
  • The direction of travel on digital reporting and VAT compliance
  • Common errors seen in practice, and the questions to put to clients
  • What to look out for in the Autumn Budget
