Using IFA Direct as a pathway to membership | 11 March
IFA Direct is the IFA’s flagship education programme designed to offer a clear and supported pathway to membership and, where required, a practising certificate.
Led by Susan Divall, IFA Education Manager, the webinar will introduce the IFA Direct programme and outline how it supports progression to membership.
Denise Weir, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Projects at ATHE, the IFA’s strategic awarding organisation partner, will explain ATHE’s role in delivering the programme.
Ian Hornsey, IFA Eastern Regional Ambassador and IFA Council Member, will share an employer’s perspective on using IFA Direct to develop staff, alongside Matthew Last, who will provide valuable insight from a learner’s perspective.

About the speakers:
Susan Divall, IFA Education Manager
Since 2013, Susan Divall has held the post of education manager at the Institute of Financial Accountants, overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the IFA's flagship education programme, IFA Direct, in conjunction with key stakeholders.
She is the key representative for the quality assurance of all programmes offered by the IFA. She undertakes the mapping of all programmes from universities, training providers and professional bodies to provide a group-wide approach to the awarding of membership.
Denise Weir, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Projects, ATHE
A Teesside University graduate, Denise Weir has over 40 years’ experience in the education sector, building a successful career focused on strategic management and the delivery of high-quality training within educational and awarding organisations in the UK and internationally. A strong advocate for learner progression, she has played a pivotal role in developing educational strategies that align academic goals with industry needs, enhance student opportunities, and ensure policies remain relevant and progressive.
Passionate about inclusive and supportive learning environments, Denise continues to drive innovation and positive change, strengthening connections among education, management, and industry to prepare future generations for an evolving professional landscape.
Ian Hornsey, IFA Eastern Regional Ambadssador 
A Fellow member of the IFA, Ian Hornsey, has served as a Regional Ambassador since March 2013 and is a strong advocate for continuing professional development, supporting members in staying compliant and maintaining relevant, up-to-date knowledge for their clients. Passionate about networking and professional collaboration, Ian actively encourages IFA members to engage with both online and in-person events to strengthen relationships across the wider business community.
He was appointed to the IFA Board as a Director in November 2019, and he also sits on the IPA Members Presidential Committee. As Chair of the IFA Members’ Advisory Committee, Ian works closely with fellow ambassadors to promote the IFA nationally and uphold the highest professional standards.
Matthew Last, Xenidian
Matthew Last is a semi senior accountant at Xeniadin. He studied the IFA Direct programme and is now an Associate member of the IFA.
