Using IFA Direct as a pathway to membership | 11 March

This presentation provides an overview of IFA Direct, the IFA’s flagship educational programme to provide a route to membership and if required a PC. 

Denise Weir, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Projects at ATHE will be providing an overview of ATHE, the IFA’s strategic partner to deliver the IFA Direct programme 

Ian Hornsey, IFA Easstern Regional Ambassador and IFA Council, will provide an employers perspective in using IFA Direct for his employees and we will be hearing from one of his employees who will provide us with a learner perspective.

This session will cover:

  • How it can be used to provide a pathway to membership  
  • ATHE, Ofqual awarding organisation – Denise Weir

  • students perspective – Matthew Last 

This webinar is members and non-members wishing to understand more about the IFA Direct programme and how it can be used to provide a pathway to membership and if required a practising license.

About the speakers: 

Susan Divall, IFA Education Manager

Since 2013 Susan has held the post of education manager at the Institute of Financial Accountants and oversees the development, implementation and management of the IFA's flagship education programme IFA Direct in conjunction with key stakeholders.   

She is the key representative for the quality assurance of all programmes offered by the IFA and undertakes the mapping of all programmes from universities, training providers and professional bodies to provide a group wide approach to the awarding of membership.

Denise Weir, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Projects, ATHE 

A Teesside University graduate, Denise has over 40 years’ experience in the education sector, building a successful career focused on strategic management and the delivery of high-quality training within educational and awarding organisations in the UK and internationally. A strong advocate for learner progression, she has played a pivotal role in developing educational strategies that align academic goals with industry needs, enhance student opportunities, and ensure policies remain relevant and progressive.

Passionate about inclusive and supportive learning environments, Denise continues to drive innovation and positive change, strengthening the connection between education, management, and industry to prepare future generations for an evolving professional landscape.

Ian Hornsey, IFA Eastern Regional Ambadssador

A Fellow member of the IFA, Ian has served as a Regional Ambassador since March 2013 and is a strong advocate for continuing professional development, supporting members to stay compliant and maintain relevant, up-to-date knowledge for their clients. Passionate about networking and professional collaboration, Ian actively encourage IFA members to engage with both online and in-person events to strengthen relationships across the wider business community.

Ian was appointed to the IFA Board as a Director in November 2019, he also sit on the Members Presidential Committee of the IPA. As Chair of the IFA Members’ Advisory Committee, Ian works closely with fellow ambassadors to promote the IFA nationally and uphold the highest professional standards.
