How to upgrade

Upgrading is free of charge. 

Simply send the required documents, quoting your membership number, to the membership department by  email to membership@ifa.org.uk or post to:

Once your membership has been upgraded you will be invoiced at the new annual membership fee the following year.


Benefits of upgrading to Associate

Being an Associate of the IFA provides enhanced recognition and helps you demonstrate to the public that you are a fully qualified, professionally trained accounting professional. 

When you become an Associate you’ll benefit from:

  • Associate certificates from both the IFA and IPA.
  • Dual membership designations for the IFA and IPA – AFA MIPA or ATA AIPA.

  • Standing out in a competitive market.

Upgrading from Associate Tax Adviser (ATA AIPA) to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA)

To upgrade from Associate Tax Adviser (ATA AIPA) to Associate Financial Adviser (AFA MIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing;
  2. provide a CV detailing you have obtained three years’ experience in accountancy or related field; and 
  3. have passed all subjects covered within the IFA Direct education programme.

Upgrading from Provisional Associate Member to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA)

To upgrade from Provisional Associate to Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing; and
  2. provide a CV detailing you have obtained three years’ experience in accountancy or a related field.

Upgrading from Provisional Associate Member to Associate Tax Adviser (ATA AIPA)

To upgrade from Provisional Associate to Associate Tax Adviser (ATA AIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing; and
  2. provide a CV detailing you have obtained three years’ experience in a tax field.  

 

Benefits of upgrading to Fellow

Being a Fellow is the highest grade of membership attainable within the IFA. It enhances your credentials and demonstrates your commitment to the profession.

When you become a Fellow you’ll benefit from:

  • Dual membership designations for the IFA and IPA – FFA FIPA or FTA AIPA.
  • Fellow certificates from both the IFA and IPA.
  • Increased recognition locally and globally.
  • Enhanced credibility in a competitive market.
Upgrading from Associate Financial Accountant (AFA MIPA) to Fellow Financial Accountant (FFA FIPA)

To upgrade from Associate (AFA MIPA) to Fellow (FFA FIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing;
  2. have five years' uninterrupted membership of the IFA at Associate level; and
  3. provide a CV detailing you have experience in accountancy or a related field of not less than ten years’, the last five years of which being at a senior level in accountancy. 

Upgrading from Associate Tax Adviser (ATA AIPA) to Fellow Tax Adviser (FTA AIPA)

To upgrade from Associate (ATA AIPA) to Fellow (FTA AIPA) you must:

  1. be a member in good standing;
  2. have five years' uninterrupted membership of the IFA at Associate level; and
  3. provide a CV detailing you have experience in accountancy or a related field of not less than ten years’, the last five years of which being at a senior level in accountancy.
